WHAT IS PRESENTATION DAY?
4-H presentations are a special sharing time when members show the skills they’ve acquired to others. Presentation Day gives 4-H members the opportunity to show others what they have learned in their current 4-H projects or what interests them!

WHAT IS A PRESENTATION?
A presentation is a method used to communicate an idea or topic by showing, telling, or expressing your opinion. A presentation may be a demonstration, a talk, a speech, or a skit.

A 4-H Presentation helps you learn to:

  • Research a subject
  • Organize ideas in a logical order
  • Share your spark or your passion
  • Practice public speaking skills

WHY GIVE A PRESENTATION?

Presentations help 4-H members:

  • do and learn-learn by doing
  • develop an ability to speak before a group
  • share acquired knowledge and skill
  • develop creativity
  • gain experience in teamwork
  • gain self-confidence, leadership skills and initiative
  • gain person recognition
  • have a more interesting and active 4-H project
  • develop public speaking skills

WHY ARE PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS IMPORTANT?
Giving presentations helps develop many life skills including the ability to speak in front of a group, organize ideas, and create and use graphics to support the spoken word. Public speaking skills are ranked number one among the skill sets of professionals.
Other guiding factors for developing public speaking skills include:

  • Discovering an important component of leadership development
  • Increasing self-esteem, self-confidence, and the ability to accept feedback
  • Expanding skills for planning, preparation and performance

Every club and project group should devote time to presentations. Presentations by 4-H members should be a vital part of every 4-H club program. A desirable goal for each 4-H club is to have every member give at least one presentation during the year.

ROOM HOSTS & CLERKS
4-H youth members are also needed to serve as room hosts and clerks.

Room host must be 11 years old and clerks 9 years or older & must arrive at 8:00 a.m. to help set-up and attend a brief orientation.

Room hosts play a vital role in ensuring a smooth transition between presentations and making sure a participant is not disturbed during his or her presentation. An orientation will be held the morning of the event. Typical duties of a room host include; help participants set up and take down their materials, introduce each participant, monitor the door, and keep the room quiet. Room hosts need to be 11 years or older and are not required to be participants. An orientation will be held the morning of the event.

Room clerks help the day run smoothly and keep an ongoing supply of evaluation sheets for the tally room insuring the event stays on schedule. Clerks need to be 9 years or older and are not required to be participants. An orientation will be held the morning of the event.

4-H members who help at Presentation Day earn record book credit for their efforts.
