Paloma Community Garden
The Paloma Community Garden is an excellent example of what Calaveras Garden to Family is about. Community residents come together to plan, plant, irrigate and harvest this garden. Everyone brings what they have to offer to the garden. A truck driver in the community delivers mulch from the county wood chip pile, propagation enthusiasts share their vegetable starts, seed savers share their seeds, knowledgeable gardeners instruct less skilled individuals in planting and irrigation systems and through it all an enormous amount of local healthy food is produced.
During the 2009 summer season the Paloma Community Garden donated over 1200 lbs of fresh produce to the food bank. This is a figure which does not include all the food that was eaten right in the community of Paloma.
