| Master Food Preserver Freezing & Dehydrating Class | Looking for an educational food activity in the Central Sierra foothills this weekend? The Amador/Calaveras Master Food Preservers are leading a free Freezing & Dehydrating class on Saturday, March 16, from 10-Noon at the Amador County GSA Building in Jackson. Learn to make the most of your winter garden, bulk purchases, and leftovers to keep them from spoiling. There is no charge for the class and reservations are not required. Join us at 12200-B Airport Road in Jackson. This class will be repeated on April 6 in San Andreas. You will learn the requirements for volunteering as a Master Food Preserver and hear details about the interview, selection and training process. Master Food Preserver applicants are open to anyone in Amador or Calaveras counties. A background check including fingerprinting is required to become a Master Food Preserver. You will be given an application at the orientation meeting. Applications are due by 4:00 pm, November 30, 2012. |

| UCCE Central Sierra Master Food Preserver Classes - July 7 | Interested in attending a free Master Food Preserver class tomorrow morning, July 7? As mentioned in our June MFP eNewswletter, you have two options in the UCCE Central Sierra counties of El Dorado, Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne. If you’re in the southern half of the region, come to the Calaveras Senior Center at 956 Mountain Ranch Road in San Andreas. This is the first class for the new Amador/Calaveras County Master Food Preservers, starting at 10 am. The topic is Jams & Jellies. If you’re farther north, come to the El Dorado County UCCE office at 311 Fair Lane in Placerville. The first class of the season for this group of veteran Master Food Preservers also starts at 10 am. The topic in Placerville is Food Safety and Basic Water Bath Canning. Both classes are free. No reservations are required; just show up early for a good seat!
