UCCE Master Food Preserver Class Schedule Change: Ethnic Edibles

Were you planning on attending the UCCE Master Food Preserver’s Ethnic Edibles class in Jackson this Saturday, September 12? If so, there’s a schedule change.
Due to the nearby raging Butte Fire, the Ethnic Edibles class is rescheduled for Saturday, October 10, from 10-12 Noon in San Andreas at the Calaveras Senior Center. It will replace the previously scheduled class, All About Olives class. You can still learn how to preserve olives at the combination UCCE Master Gardener/Master Food Preserver class on Saturday, October 17, called Growing, Harvesting, Curing, Preserving and Eating Olives!, in Jackson.
Attached are the current class schedules for UCCE Master Food Preserver classes in Amador, Calaveras and El Dorado counties, along with the flyer for the upcoming Holiday Gifts from the Kitchen and Garden. This new event is a combination class hosted by both the UCCE Master Food Preservers and Master Gardeners with a variety of demonstrations and inspiration tables to inspire your gift giving plans for the fall and winter holidays.

Good Afternoon,
We have been notified by the El Dorado County Fairgrounds that they will be occupied by fire personnel for the nest couple of weeks. Therefore we have relocated the remainder classes for September and all of October to our UC Cooperative Extension (Bethell-Delfino Agriculture) Building at 311 Fair Lane in Placerville. Please download the updated schedule.

Good Morning,
Due to the El Dorado County Fairgrounds being occupied by the wonderful firefighters fighting the fire up in the Pollock Pines area, the Master Food Preservers have moved their Dehydrating and Freezing classes for both September 16 and 20.
The new location will be the Bethell-Delfino Agriculture Building at 311 Fair Lane in Placerville.

Summer canning season is here!
The UCCE Master Food Preservers of Central Sierra in El Dorado, Amador and Calaveras Counties are leading two classes in June to teach how to safely preserve food using techniques recommended by the National Center for Home Food Preservation and the USDA.
Both classes are free and no reservations are required.

Master Food Preserver Freezing & Dehydrating Class

Looking for an educational food activity in the Central Sierra foothills this weekend? The Amador/Calaveras Master Food Preservers are leading a free Freezing & Dehydrating class on Saturday, March 16, from 10-Noon at the Amador County GSA Building in Jackson.
Learn to make the most of your winter garden, bulk purchases, and leftovers to keep them from spoiling.
There is no charge for the class and reservations are not required. Join us at 12200-B Airport Road in Jackson. This class will be repeated on April 6 in San Andreas.

Do you enjoy home food preservation? Do you like to volunteer? Would you like to learn safe methods of home food preservation? If so...
You are invited to an informational orientation meeting on
- Date: Monday, November 26, 2012
- Time: 2 – 3 pm in the
- Location: Amador County UCCE main conference room, 12200-B Airport Road in Jackson.
You will learn the requirements for volunteering as a Master Food Preserver and hear details about the interview, selection and training process. Master Food Preserver applicants are open to anyone in Amador or Calaveras counties. A background check including fingerprinting is required to become a Master Food Preserver. You will be given an application at the orientation meeting. Applications are due by 4:00 pm, November 30, 2012.

Interested in attending a free Master Food Preserver class tomorrow morning, July 7?
As mentioned in our June MFP eNewswletter, you have two options in the UCCE Central Sierra counties of El Dorado, Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne.
If you’re in the southern half of the region, come to the Calaveras Senior Center at 956 Mountain Ranch Road in San Andreas. This is the first class for the new Amador/Calaveras County Master Food Preservers, starting at 10 am. The topic is Jams & Jellies.
If you’re farther north, come to the El Dorado County UCCE office at 311 Fair Lane in Placerville. The first class of the season for this group of veteran Master Food Preservers also starts at 10 am. The topic in Placerville is Food Safety and Basic Water Bath Canning.
Both classes are free. No reservations are required; just show up early for a good seat!
